Christian Lacroix Haute Couture show for autumn/winter 07/08
This collection marked his twentieth anniversary as a couturier and was splendid and magnificent enough to exhibit his style and creativity. He is one of the most extravagant and eclectic designers on the scene, he adores embellishment and creates a bejeweling effect. His designs have a sumptuous femininity about them, a mix of vintage Paris and his native Arles, which is both adorable and irresistible. He is one of the few couturiers who can make ‘girlish’ look appropriate for a woman. Each of his items can be described as bejeweled, be-rib boned, tasseled, bowed and beaded.
His show on the Tuesday was no exception and had all the glamour, extravagance and magnificence but there was something different too. Each item was preceded by a comment about the need for head-on confrontation between polar opposites: rigor and disorganization, for example, or crinkled and smooth, concise and ethereal. His collection had all the opulence including black lace ‘Infanta’ gowns, babydolls and sinuous ballgowns with pleated trains and fishtail hems, offered the same intricacy of cut and love of embellishment. The event was really grand as it marked the designer’s 20th anniversary.
Let’s have a look at some of the designer wear collection:
